Garden of the Month
The Schoharie Valley Garden Club serves the breadth of Schoharie County which encompasses many towns and villages. For the purpose of the "Garden of the Month” award, the club has divided the county into 5 regions. The regions include Sharon Springs, Schoharie, Gilboa, Cobleskill/Richmondville and Middleburgh.
A "Garden of the Month" is always recognized in a different region of the county during each of the 5 months when gardens are in peak bloom – May through September. Each month only one region is evaluated by a garden club team that searches the region for an exceptional residential garden. When a garden is selected, the team places our Garden of the Month sign in front of the garden where it remains for the month. The team interviews the gardener, takes photos and submits the photos and an article to our local papers to give the gardener well deserved recognition. We also present a Certificate of Recognition to the gardener.
The next month a different region is evaluated and so on through the season. Each year we also rotate the regions through the different months so that every region has a chance at the award in a different month than the previous year. The "Garden of the Month" award is our way of recognizing and thanking the hard working, dedicated gardeners in our county who do an outstanding job beautifying our communities.
