Schoharie Valley
Garden Club
Summer Camp Scholarships
The club provides scholarship opportunities for 2-3 students to attend one week at one of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation summer camps. Campers explore New York's diverse habitats, have the chance to learn basic ecological concepts, and gain understanding about how human activities affect the environment. They solve challenges, explore a multitude of environmental concepts, practice outdoor skills and, in general, spend the week immersed in nature. To be eligible for consideration, a student must have a financial need for assistance, and must submit an essay explaining which camp they would like to attend and why they are a good candidate. The essays are evaluated and awards presented prior to the end of the school year.
The camps that are available to the students are:
-
Camp Colby next to the Adirondack Forest Preserve
-
Camp DeBruce in the southern Catskills
-
Camp Rushford in Allegany County
-
Camp Pack Forest in the southern Adirondacks
